Learning Support Services

 

The Leechburg Area School District employs a full time Director of Special Education who also serves as the Special Programs Coordinator.  This individual coordinates the district’s Special Education Programs, Instructional Support Process, Multi-Tiered System of Support, and Student Assistance Programs.  In addition, the district also employs a full time School Psychologist, as well as, a part time behavior specialist.  


A continuum of services is offered to students at the elementary level that are displaying special needs.  The district operates two Learning Support classes at the elementary level.  Support is also provided in the general education classroom as needed.  A sensory room can be utilized by students that present sensory needs.    


Additionally, the district has a full time Speech Pathologist and part time Occupational and Physical Therapists to service the needs of the students.  


Students displaying outstanding intellectual ability are serviced through the District's Gifted Support Programs. Elementary students are serviced through the "Challenge" Program.
