2 Hour Early Dismissal due to the Solar Eclipse

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As many of you know, a solar eclipse will occur in our area on April 8th, 2024. Leechburg will witness an excellent viewing opportunity of the eclipse, with the Moon covering approximately 97% of the Sun. Sunlight will dim briefly, but the sky will not go dark. At last night’s school board meeting (3/20/24), we discussed the eclipse and the precautions for student safety. The timing of the eclipse will begin around 2:16 pm, with maximum coverage of the sun around 3:16 pm and the eclipse ending around 4:16 pm. This timing is at the time of elementary dismissal, so we have decided to implement a 2-hour early dismissal on April 8th, 2024 for the entire district. This decision was to help ensure the safety of our children since our elementary students would be walking home or riding the bus during the eclipse.
I appreciate your understanding of this situation.
Respectfully,
Dr. Keibler
